One of the strangest things about being an author is knowing that the people who live so vividly inside my head don’t necessarily look the same inside yours.
I’ve finally done it. I’ve put faces to The Carrero Connection cast.
Now, before anybody starts shouting at me because “THAT IS NOT MY NICK!” 😂 – I know.
One of the loveliest things about reading is that we all build our own version of these characters. I can describe someone until I’m blue in the face, but your brain will still take those details, wander off somewhere, and produce the person you see. And I actually love that.
So these aren’t meant to replace the characters who have been living in your heads.
These are the people who live in mine.
Over the last little while I’ve been playing around with bringing them visually to life, trying to get as close as I can to the faces, personalities and general energy I see when I’m writing them. Some came together almost immediately. Others took a ridiculous amount of tweaking because apparently fictional people can be just as awkward and demanding as real ones. Who knew? 😂
And now I have them.
Rachel and all that gorgeous Texan chaos. Nick with his polished lawyer exterior and Carrero underneath. Warren looking every inch the formidable Texas oil man I always imagined. Mico carrying enough of Nick in his features that you know instantly they’re brothers, while still very much being his own man.
There’s Simone in all her sharp, immaculate Wallace Legal glory; Renee and Tiana bringing some much-needed warmth; Jubilee and her lovely Rhett; Charles, Jonathon, and the rest of Rachel’s increasingly complicated extended world. And, of course, the Montgomery Hunt contingent in Texas.
Then there’s Camilla and Alexi – Camlexi.
Those two are a little different, because I can’t entirely take the credit for them.
Camlexi actually began as a fan-made pairing, and I loved the idea so much that it stuck. ❤️ There’s something rather wonderful about readers loving a world enough to start imagining connections of their own, only for one of those ideas to make me sit there thinking… So I stole your couple, and I am not sorry!
And here we are.
That’s part of what makes this whole thing so special to me. These characters might begin in my imagination, but after you’ve spent time with them, argued about them, fallen in love with them, wanted to throttle them and occasionally sent me messages demanding explanations for their behaviour, they become a little bit yours too.
So consider this less of an official casting and more of me opening the door to my head and letting you peek inside.
This is how I see them.
You absolutely do not have to see them the same way.
In fact, I want to know if you don’t.
Who did I get closest to the person you’ve always pictured? Who made you immediately think YES, THAT’S THEM?
And which one are you looking at thinking:
L.T., absolutely bloody not. Mine looks nothing like that. 😂
Because I know some of you have had your own Carrero cast firmly established for years, and I desperately want to hear about them.
Welcome to The Carrero Connection — inside my head. ❤️
L.T. x
