“Edward’s character in the book is actually inspired by my real life husband. Also the mention of Wuthering Heights in the book is a hint towards my husband, as Wuthering Heights is the very first book he gave me when we had just started dating.

One day we were walking in a flea market, and he picked up a used copy of Wuthering Heights sold by a book merchant, and bought it for me. He then took me to the park, and sat playing with my hair as I read the first few chapters. He won my heart that day!”

This is the story of Sarah, leaving London following a heartbreaking tragedy, she leaves to start her life in South Africa, running from her pain where her childhood friend Katy is waiting to help her find her way. Leaving behind memories to start anew.

This book is about friendship, sisterhood, healing, overcoming the past and starting again. finding love in places you never realised it was. It has a heartbreaking tragedy that takes a while to figure out and is so very sad that I just shed a tear.

It’s a romantic, sweet tale with very warm, cosy writing, and easy style to read, and a beautiful happy ever after. It was obvious early on to me how this would wrap up, but it did not hamper the enjoyment at all.

Was just a really warmhearted read, with a great hot choc recipe, may I add. It’s to die for and maybe I did earmark it for future trying.

Fave parts- I loved the thoughtful gifts from Edward, who is a charming yet wonderful man who was so obviously very good for her and finally got his woman after many years of unrequited (so he thought) love.

The South African scenes were breathtaking and very easy to picture due to the descriptive detail of Taryn’s writing, enough to help you imagine it all but not overwhelming and boring.

This was not a heavy read, despite the gut wrenching pain she endured, but a real feel good type of cosy romance you could easily lift over Christmas to chill while the kids are watching reruns of ‘Bed knobs and broomsticks’. Left me feeling glowy with it’s fairy-tale ending.

I will definitely be watching for Taryn’s next books in the future, I could really see myself settling down with a good book like this when I need a little happy pick me up.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Having never visited South Africa but always having wanted to it was a joy to read Taryns descriptions of traditional and modern South Africa. Taryn has a unique writing style that brings the words to life as though you are there. Her writing flows beautifully and several of her descriptions were so detailed that I really felt I was amongst the surroundings and I could imagine and experience the countryside and towns vividly in my mind as they I was right there inside the book.

The characters were relatable and I was intrigued to find out why the main character Sarah had returned to her homeland of South Africa after fleeing London and all her family and friends. The storyline was great and the reason is shocking!

There are some really unique moments in the book that were lovely to read, the gifts, the giraffe as my daughter has one she sleeps with every night too and especially the mug of hot chocolate! Every time I sat down to read, I made one to bring the story even more alive!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Taryn’s debut novel. The story of Sarah and how she conquered her fears and deals with her past and future. Taryn writes with a fluidity and describes the locations and scenes wonderfully to give vision to her readers. For a debut novel this good, I will look forward to her succeeding novels and what they will bring too!
