Once again, I find myself writing lyrics and wanting to share them with you. It’s something I used to do constantly in my teens and twenties before I stepped away from music for a while. Now, as I’m learning the drums and finding my way back to that long-missed path, it feels natural to return to it.
Some songs come from imagination, and some come from quietly observing the things we don’t always admit out loud. “King in Your Tower” sits in that strange, intense space where admiration for a celebrity or musician turns into something deeper, something that feels real even when you know it isn’t. It’s a side effect of how we live now, with constant access to artists’ lives, voices, and personalities, where distance starts to feel like closeness.
It’s about parasocial love… that very real sense of connection we form with people who don’t actually know we exist. A voice, a lyric, a performance can feel personal, like it’s speaking directly to you, until you realise that connection only runs one way. In a world where music and media blur the line between artist and audience, it becomes easy to build something emotional from afar.
This piece isn’t about judging that feeling. It’s about understanding it… how powerful it can be, how convincing it feels, and how difficult it is to let go, even when you know the truth. And sometimes, even when you find something real in your own life, a small part of that distant connection still lingers quietly in the background.
King in your tower
Verse 1
Never thought I would fall this way
A distant voice that haunts me like a memory
So far up there in your ivory tower
So far, so near… yet you hold all the power
First time I saw you shining so bright
Something about you felt so right
Maybe it was just your face on a tv screen
Yet somehow it felt like I’d been seen
Bridge
This one-sided love in a digital age
Where you fall for a face that won’t know your name
I never thought I’d fall into that trap… yet here I am
Longing for someone who can never love me back
Chorus
This parasocial abnormality
Fooling my heart like a remedy
You’re just a king in his tower, sitting up so high
Unreachable, untouchable… like kissing the sky
Unaware of the power that you hold
Of the hearts you break and the longing calls
You’re just a king in a tower, hiding your flaws
Yet they fall, they hurt, and they bear your cross
Verse 2
The funny thing is I feel like I know you
I consume media that fuels how I adore you
I see a soul that speaks to mine
Or maybe it’s just something I designed
Every word feels like it’s meant for me
Like you’re reaching through the TV screen
But I’m the only one who feels this way
While up there you don’t know my name
Bridge
Chorus
Verse 3
Then you spoke… and it felt clear
Not just a voice I chose to hear
No perfect light, no distant view
Just something honest breaking through
You speak the things I never say
And meet me halfway in that space
No tower high above it all
Just two feet standing on shared ground
Bridge
You speak in a language I don’t have to translate
Not just a face that never knew my name
I found something real… so here we are
And I still love you from afar
Chorus
