It’s been one of those gloriously busy weeks in the craft room where every surface ends up covered in tartan scraps, laser-cut wood, yarn bits, and half-finished ideas that somehow come together right at the last moment. Scotland has been the heartbeat of all my makes this week — every item soaked in heritage, texture, and that unmistakable charm of our national thistle.
I’ve been leaning heavily into my upcycled tartan again (all rescued from local kilt-making waste, as always), pairing it with hand-finished wooden pieces straight from my laser cutter. The result? A collection that feels timeless, earthy, and very “me.”
Handcrafted Scottish Accessories
From thistle-etched needle minder boards to tiny tartan cushions and engraved key fobs, this batch has been a joy to make. Each piece carries a blend of rustic Highland vibe and modern craft finish. The trinket boxes have honestly stolen my heart — rich wood tones, soft tartan inlays, and that proud thistle rising on the lid. They feel like wee keepsakes you’d find tucked on a granny’s mantelpiece, passed down through generations.
Tartan Tic-Tac-Toe (Noughts & Crosses), LT-Style
I also finished a new Scottish noughts and crosses set this week! The board sits on lush tartan and the pieces alternate between salted St. Andrew’s crosses and engraved thistles. It’s the perfect mix of playful and decorative. These wee games always get such happy reactions at craft fairs, and they’re so satisfying to assemble.
Working With Scottish Materials
There’s something grounding about crafting with materials from right here at home — tartan remnants from West Lothian kilt makers, locally sourced wood, and designs inspired by our folklore and landscape. It keeps my makes personal… almost like each item carries a bit of Scotland out into the world.

New YouTube Video — Yarn Haul & Project Chat!
Among all the tartan chaos, I also squeezed in a new YouTube upload this week! My latest yarn video is now live — a cosy sit-down where I chat through what’s on my hooks and needles, new yarns I’ve picked up, and what’s inspiring me creatively just now.
If you fancy some background company while you craft, pop it on and join me for a cuppa and a blether.
